As stay-at-home orders begin to lift around the country, and your community amenities as well as local gyms begin to open their doors, you’ve probably thought about your fitness regimen. Perhaps you’ve stayed active during this season of uncertainty or maybe after all of the quarantine snacks you feel more like a shape than in shape, we’re here to help.
By now, motivation may definitely be lacking, especially with the amount of time we have all spent at home. We encourage you to practice to self-care and not force yourself to take on more than your well-being can handle in these unprecedented times. However, if you are ready to step up your game – there is no shortage of proof that staying active has endless benefits, such as boosting your mood and calming stress.
Whether you can’t wait to get back in the gym or you prefer to work out in the safety of your own home, we’ve compiled tips on how to get yourself going.
Step it Up!
Dust off your Fitbit, Apple watch, Garmin, or whatever it is you use to track your steps and get those numbers climbing! A fun way to stay motivated and socially distance at the same time is join a challenge with your friends. While you may not be working out together, watching each other’s daily step totals rise will help keep everyone accountable and driven.
Just Stroll
Walking is a great exercise and can be done relatively anywhere. No equipment is needed and the benefits are endless. With longer days ahead all summer long, start by committing to a couple of days a week. Before you know it, you’ll be experiencing amazing gains such as better cardiac health, alleviation of depression and fatigue, weight loss and more.
Meet Up with Your Gym Buddy Virtually
With all the technology we have today, it’s easier now more than ever to connect with your gym community even if you’re not physically in the same building. Set up a time to Zoom and practice your yoga together or FaceTime while you go for a walk. Having an accountability partner is a great way to keep your goals activated.
Bring Zen to your Space
If you’re working out at home, you have complete freedom to make your workout area inspiring. Perhaps you want to set out your favorite candles during a Pilates session, or maybe you want to decorate with pictures of family or whoever motivates you to stay healthy. Turn on your favorite music and keep up your success by customizing an area that keeps you returning to it.
Just say “Om”
Meditation can do amazing things like improve self-image, self-worth, help fight addiction and increase attention span. All you need is a few minutes each day. You can start by sitting in silence and focusing on your breathing.
Pick a Date
Short term goals can be hugely affective for achieving results. Find a calendar and choose the date you are intending to accomplish your milestone. Perhaps it’s a 2-minute plank or running a 5K. Whatever your goal is, keeping your focus is key.
Treat Yo’self!
You’ve put in the work, now make sure you celebrate your success. Whether that be a healthy breakfast post your morning jog or a glass of wine after an evening yoga session, when you have something to look forward to, you will be more likely to keep your workout consistent.
