10 Fun Holiday DIYs to Make Your Home Festive on the Cheap

When you’re buying holiday supplies it seems like you’re spending $20 here, $20 there, and $100 over there. Let’s just say that it adds up quickly. But you don’t have to break your budget to make your home look festive. Here are 10 cheap holiday DIY projects that you still have plenty of time to complete.

1. Wreaths

Whether they’re inside or outside, hanging on your door or on your wall, wreaths are an easy way to display your holiday cheer. You can go for a traditional look with a green, leafy wreath with red berries or something more creative like a wreath made out of small, colorful ornaments.

2. Lights

Christmas lights are not that expensive or hard to hang up. Since you live in an apartment, you can’t just nail them to the wall, but there are plenty of other solutions. Look for clips that can stick to your outside walls or windows and hang up colorful strands to show everyone your holiday spirit.

3. Ornaments

Ornaments don’t just have to hang on your tree. Place some of your favorites across your fireplace or spread them around your end tables and window sills. You can make them into a wreath (like discussed above), hang them on your door or walls, or set them up in fun, holiday scenes.

4. Decorative Bowls

A super cheap and easy holiday DIY project is to take a large, pretty serving bowl and fill it with winter items. You can fill it with holiday candies, candy canes, pinecones, or (once again) ornaments.

5. Christmas Cards

Another DIY idea that doesn’t cost you any money is simply to hang all the Christmas cards you’ve received from loved ones. Hang them above your fireplace, across a bookshelf, along your window, or anywhere else that serves as a place of pride.

6. Stockings

Display your Christmas stockings proudly (even if you don’t have a fireplace) just like your Christmas cards. You can decorate them with your family and make every member feel like a part of the holiday.

7. Christmas Tree

There’s nothing more festive than a Christmas tree. While a real tree or the larger fake trees can be pricy, you can find some more creative and affordable options. For example, you can buy a smaller tree to place by your couch or bedside. Or you can get several small, plug-in trees to sit on your end tables. You even can make a Christmas tree out of empty soda cans or bottles.

8. Presents

What’s a Christmas tree without a little presents? It’s time to stop procrastinating and put your wrapped presents under the tree. For a few more decorations, you can wrap empty boxes and place them on your bookshelves, tables, and fireplace to make it feel like the holidays.

9. Vases

Make your home smell like Christmas with winter plants and decorations. Choose your most festive vases and fill them with poinsettias, holly, pine, branches, and any other holiday fragrances.

10. Knick Knacks

Finally, you can’t go wrong with a few Christmas knick knacks. Fill your home with snowmen, penguins, reindeer, and anything else that reminds you of the holidays. These don’t have to be expensive, just fun.

You want your home to feel festive without ruining your budget for the rest of the year. Do a few small DIY projects with your family, and it will feel like Christmas in no time.
